This is SolarPneumaticHybrid.com, an alternative energy wiki. We intend on providing detailed How-tos that anyone can follow:

  • How to get your house off the grid using solar panels, batteries, and wind turbines.
  • How to drive your car without using fossil fuels.
  • How to farm without using fossil fuels.

The short term goal, 1 to 5 years, is to help people conserve energy at home and produce their own electricity. Our long term goal is to design open source pneumatic cars, tractors and energy storage systems for homes. By using spun carbon fiber silos you can store energy at home for running your household at night or charging your pneumatic car without having the 20 to 50 batteries that a household would need otherwise. The main disadvantage of batteries is that even if you replace the water and/or acid as needed they eventually quit working while a carbon fiber compressor tank or even a metal one should last for decades or even a century. There are already companies designing pneumatic cars; we want to design a pneumatic car that incorporates batteries (fewer than a traditional hybrid car would have) and solar panels integrated into the body so that if you park your car in the sunlight while you are at work for 8 or more hours, you could potentially run your car without ever plugging it in (as long as your round trip commute is less than 50 miles, then again, maybe it will work for longer commutes). The idea is that when there is not enough sunlight to drive the motor that drives the compressor (the motor also functions as a generator, the compressor also functions as the pneumatic engine), the solar panels trickle charge the batteries until they are full and once the batteries are full it switches to compressor mode where it sends the solar power to the motor and then uses the batteries to make up the difference between the solar output and the motor requirements.
